The Inspection of the Lamb-Part 5
Mark tells us that on the day of Yeshua’s triumphal entry that Yeshua went into the temple and looked around at all things and because the hour was late He left with the twelve and went to Bethany. It was the following day that being hungry and finding no fruit on the fig tree, He cursed it. Then that same day Yeshua and his disciples returned to the temple. This was the day that Yeshua was cleaning His Father’s house from the leaven by driving the moneychangers out of the temple courts. Some say that Yeshua attended 4 Passovers during His ministry and it was at the first Passover when He over turned the tables11 and drove the leaven out of His Father’s house. Mark’s account seems to indicate differently.
Mark 11: 17 (NKJV) And Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve. 12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again." And His disciples heard it. 15 So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
Beginning on the 10th day of Nisan the priests begin the inspection of the lambs for Passover. They must be examined and found with no fault or blemish of any kind. As we take a closer look into the gospels we see that the Lamb of God was also being inspected at this time. While the priests were examining the lambs to be sure that they were without spot or blemish, the Pharisees tried to trip Yeshua up and find fault in His words, but they could not.12 Likewise the chief priests and the elders tried to find some kind of false witness against Yeshua, but they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward they could find nothing false in Him.13 Even upon the examination of Pilate and of Herod the Lamb of God was found without defect. We read in Luke 23 the following account of the inspection of The Lamb of God. Even the examination of the Lamb was fulfilled as Jesus our sacrificial lamb was inspected by Pilate.
Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14 said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; 15 no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him.
