The Lamb of God Enters the East Gate - Part 4
On the next day would which is still the 10th of the first month until evening, is the day that Yeshua rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.
This crowd recognized Him as Messiah for many reasons one of them was because of the miracle of raising Lazarus.
Now let me set for you the prophetic scene of the day. During the time of Jesus' ministry, the Jews had been obeying the commandment of the Lord. They would take a male lamb without blemish on the 10th day of the first month. One lamb was expected to feed 10 people. Each household would take a lamb and if it was a small household then the lamb would be shared with another small household. They were to take the lamb on the 10th and inspect it to be sure that it was perfect and without blemish. They were to hold the lamb for 4 days. Holding the lamb for 4 days brings us to the 14th of Nisan which would be Passover. If one day is as a thousand with the Lord, then we can see that from the first Passover in Egypt until Messiah was 4 days or 4,000 years. God required that they hold their Passover lamb for 4 days because He was holding our Passover Lamb for 4,000 years. Just as a little side note here, remember that the number 4 represents a door. Yeshua Himself said that He was the door. A lamb for every household signifies that salvation is for every household. The Lord keeps painting the same picture for us over and over again.
The population of Jerusalem at this time, according to Josephus the historian that lived during the time of Messiah, was 600,000. It is estimated that two and one half million Jews were in Jerusalem for Passover. Based on 10 people for each lamb, this would mean that approximately 250,000 lambs would have been sacrificed at Passover. On this day, the tenth of Nisan, these male lambs that were less than a year old, were being gathered for inspection, to be sure that they were without blemish of any kind.
The entire song is about Yeshua. Remember what we learned earlier about a holy convocation being a dress rehearsal for the real thing. The priests and people inside the temple were still rehearsing while the people outside at the east gate were praising their Messiah singing the song to Him and experiencing the real drama of the day.
As Yeshua entered Jerusalem by the East Gate those that recognized Him to be the Messiah began to praise Him and sing to Him. Inside the temple the same song was being sung. Let’s take a look at the song, it is Psalm 118. For the purposes of this study we will just examine a portion of it, starting in verse 19.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD, Through which the righteous shall enter. 21 I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD. 27 God is the LORD, And He has given us light; Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
The first thing that I want to point out is that three times as they were singing, they were singing His name. Salvation is mentioned three times in this Psalm and in Hebrew the word for salvation is Yeshua. First in verse 14 they sang “The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my Yeshua”. Then in the next verse they continued and sang, “The voice of rejoicing and Yeshua Is in the tents of the righteous. Then the final time they mention Him by name is in verse 21: “I will praise You, for You have answered me, And have become my Yeshua.
Then as we drop to verse 25 and 26 we see the very same words that He was greeted with as He entered the city on a donkey. In the temple they were singing this hymn at the very same time that it was being sung to Yeshua as in entered the East Gate. As Yeshua entered by the East Gate, they would have been singing, “Open to me the gates of righteousness….and the rest of the Psalm mentioning His name three times and recognizing that He was the embodiment of this Psalm.
Yeshua, (Jesus) rode into the city on a donkey fulfilling the scripture in Zechariah 9:9 that was quoted in John that says: Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: "Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey's colt." This prophecy in Zechariah was written some 400 years before it was fulfilled on the day of Yeshua’s triumphal entry. Something very interesting to me is that Mary while she was carrying her son rode on a donkey to Bethlehem. So then our Saviour came riding on a donkey shortly before His birth and shortly before His death. This beast of burden carried Yeshua the supreme burden bearer into Jerusalem just 4 days before the door would open for Yeshua to carry the heavy burden of the sins of the world. (please take note again of the 4 that represents Yeshua (Jesus) the door.

Now picture this, as Yeshua was entering at the East Gate on the 10th of Nisan, at the very same time the priests were gathering the lambs for inspection at the North Gate which is the sheep gate. As Yeshua rode into the city the crowds began to praise Him and sing to Him. In the temple they were singing too. They all were singing the same song of praise. During the temple services on this day the song that would have been sung was a song that had been sung on this 10th day of Nisan since it was penned by David.
