Part 4
Rosh HaShanah-Yom HaDin-The Day of Judgment
The fate of the people that are not totally righteous or totally wicked is not yet sealed at this point. It was believed that they would have until Yom Kippur to repent. In other words, they would go through the tribulation period however unlike the totally wicked, many would repent and turn to God. Their fate is then determined after the seven year tribulation. 1 John the Revelator records for us what he saw in a vision which also speaks of the books being opened and of people being judged.
Rev. 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
I think at this point it is very important to understand that we have no righteousness in and of ourselves. Our righteousness is totally dependant upon the blood covering of Jesus Christ. If we have accepted Him as our Savior and the Holy Spirit dwells within our hearts, then and only then are we righteous before God. God sees the finished work upon the cross and the blood that covers our sin; when He looks at each of us who have repented and accepted Jesus as our savior. Yeshua, (Jesus) is our righteous; in Him we are totally righteous. We that are totally righteous will not be judged in the same way that the unrighteous will be judged. We will be judged according to our works and we will then be rewarded accordingly.
The Jews call this time period between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur “the awesome days”. That is why it is said that one should repent before one is caught in the days of awe. Remember earlier I mentioned that this season is for forty days, and that forty days of testing generally ended with a victory or a judgment. This is what we will see on “that Day,” the Bride of Messiah will be snatched from the earth in victory, and those remaining on the earth will have to endure the wrath of God in judgment. This fall season of feasts paints a picture of history. God has determined that life on this planet as we know it, will last a certain period of time. This period of time is the time allotted for man to repent of his sins. Each generation has its own lifespan to repent and turn to the Lord. At some point in time there will be a generation that will be caught in the days of awe if they have not repented. The 40 days of repentance allotted until Yom Kippur represents a time of testing at the end of the age which will end in victory for those who are known as “His Bride”. It will also end in judgment for those who have rejected Him and His ways.
Dr. David Stern in his Jewish commentary on the New Testament points to the following scripture when referring the Yom HaDin, the Day of Judgment. He makes the point that the reference to “that day” is Yom HaDin. 2
Matt. 7:22-23 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
This scripture is a very scary scripture because it speaks of people who appear to be operating in the gifts of Spirit. They prophesied in Jesus’ name, they cast out demons in Jesus’ name, yet He says to them that He does not know them. This speaks to the fact that they did not have any intimacy with Him. If they did indeed love the Lord in an intimate way they would not practice lawlessness. Love is known by her deeds. Love for the Lord motivates the person to please the Lord. It presses on to be obedient. Love of God is made manifest by the love that is shown to others. Those that practice lawlessness are continually breaking the law of love. I believe that the Lord is saying although many will do wonders in my name, they have not learned that the gospel message is all about love, love for God and love for our fellow man. We love Him because He first loved us. For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believed in Him should not parish, but have everlasting life. 3
Yom HaDin or the Day of Judgment is a fearful and awesome thing that will take so many inhabitants of this earth by surprise. It is the day that the Lord’s wrath will be poured upon the earth because God’s gift of Love sent to us in His Son Jesus has been rejected by some, and because the love of sin has reached the season of maturation. There will be a moment in time when it will be to late to repent. The message of the season is: Repent and turn to the Lord today while there is still time. Our God is faithful to forgive and His love endures forever.

Part 4
Rosh HaShanah is also called Yom HaDin, (the Day of Judgment). The Jews believed that this was the day that God would judge all men. It is thought by some sages that three great books would be opened and that all men would be put into one of three classifications. The totally righteous are sealed and separated for life with God, in Hebrew this is the natzel, known to us as the rapture. The totally wicked are sealed for facing the wrath of God during the tribulation period and will be separated from God through all eternity.
