The Spring Feasts
The Feast of
Unleavened Bread
Part 12

                                                                                           Previous Lesson Part 11
The Feast of Unleavened Bread -Part 12

The Feast of Unleavened Bread begins the second day of Passover beginning on the 15th of Nisan in the evening. There are two biblically historical events that happened on this day. They are, the Exodus journey that began as Moses lead the Hebrews from Egypt, and the burial of Yeshua after His crucifixion. These dates become confusing because of the biblical day being from evening to evening.  At sunset begins a new day. This means that Yeshua died on the Wednesday of the 14th of Nisan which was referred to as Preparation day. Preparation day was the day before any festival. The day that followed was the Sabbath and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Even though the day would have been what we call Thursday, it was never-the-less an extra Sabbath day during this holiday.  It was considered a “high day”. 27 Jesus died at 3:00 P.M. on the day of preparation and then just a couple of hours later, He was buried on the 14th of Nisan, before sunset. They would have been hurrying around to bury Jesus before sunset, on the day of preparation. To bury Jesus, even just an hour later on the Sabbath would have been forbidden because it was considered work. The Feast of Unleavened Bread, a Sabbath high day, began at sunset on the 15th of Nisan.

No one was allowed to eat leavened bread for seven days.  On the first day all leaven was to be removed from their houses. This is the day that the father of house hunts for leaven with his children and burns what he finds in the fire. Anyone that was known to have eaten any leaven bread during these 7 days was to be cut off from Israel.28   It is interesting to me that the seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the Zayin and the word picture that it symbolizes is that of a weapon and it means to be cut off. The number 7 is also the number of completion.  The 7 days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread complete the gospel message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Yeshua (Jesus) our Messiah. Yeshua, fulfilled Daniel’s prophecy that the Messiah of Israel would be” cut off”.

He who knew no sin bore the punishment of our sin for us in order to set us free from the consequences of sin, which is death. He triumphed over death and was resurrected as the first of many that will also be resurrected into eternal life.  The message of this 7 day feast is that anyone that is found with leaven (which is representative of sin) in their house will be cut off.  Any one that does not accept God’s plan for salvation will be cut off from the Father. Yeshua’s is the plan and the only door that opens up to eternal life with God.

Keep in mind that one day in the Lord can represent a thousand, therefore 7 days is the same as 7 thousand years with the Lord. Therefore, it is possible that the 7 days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread is meant to represent 7,000 years. Our scriptures seem to indicate that God has a 7,000 year plan for the history of time and the world system as we know it.  Based on this, it is my belief that the Feast of Unleavened Bread was not only fulfilled in Yeshua, but that it has a future fulfillment as well. I see a picture painted of the ends of days. The Spring Feasts definitely speak of Yeshua’s first coming, however much of prophecy, has multiple historic fulfillments contained in them.  It is my opinion that this is a real possibility with The Feast of Unleavened Bread.

For 7 days the house was to be clean and found with no leaven.  Any one found eating leavened bread would be cut off from Israel.  If this is a pictorial prophecy, of the end of days, then we are in the 7th day because there were 4 days before Messiah and there have been 2 days since Messiah, therefore we have at this point in history entered the 7th day.  I believe that Yeshua will return to the earth at the 7th day mark because the period for judging leaven and unleavened bread on the earth will be completed, i.e. the judgment for sin on the earth will take place. Anyone found eating leaven will be cut off.  Eating is a metaphor for pleasure and enjoyment and satisfying any kind of appetite. Therefore anyone that is found eating his full and finding pleasure and enjoyment in his sinful life will be cut off. Not just cut off into nothingness, but cut off from the presence of God for all of eternity.  We all will enter into a new time zone at the end of the age.  Eternity is for all peoples, some will spend it with the Holy One and some will spend eternity in total darkness separated from God forever in a place called the lake of fire. 29

When judgment day comes on the 7th day, the time for repenting will have ended.  Likewise the span of everyone’s life which is represented by 70 years; will at some point come to an end and when it does the time for repenting will have ended as well. Only those that have repented of their sin and have their sin covered in the blood of Yeshua will enter into eternity with God.  The number 7 In Hebrew as I said is a word picture for weapon and it means “being cut off”.  It is Yeshua’s second coming that is thought to take place on the 7th day from creation. He is seen coming back at that time with a weapon, i.e. a sword in His mouth and a rod of iron in His hand.30  So this is another reason that I believe that we are talking about another future fulfillment of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. There will be a time of judgment and after the judgment we will move into the millennium, a thousand year period where Messiah will rule and reign with his bride.  If this is the prophetic picture that God is painting for us, then Yeshua will be coming at the 7th day mark to judge anyone that is found with leaven in their house.  Just as He did in the temple He will be cleaning house.  He will be removing all leaven from the earth. There is only one way to be sure that there is no leaven found in your house, and that is to have all your sin, past, present and future covered by the blood of Yeshua (Jesus). Just as the Hebrews were protected from the death angel by applying the blood of a sacrificed lamb to their doorposts, so will the people of God be protected from the wrath of God by having applied the blood of the Lamb of God to the doorposts of their hearts.

This is the possible picture that I see could be painted by the Lord, for another fulfillment, however times and dates are not the quintessential message.  The message of The Feast of Unleavened Bread is to accept the free gift of Yeshua’s atoning sacrifice so that His blood covers your sin. If the doorposts of our hearts have the blood of the Lamb applied there, no leaven will be seen in the house.

It is to last for seven days. Because the Feast of Unleavened Bread is very much an intricate part of Passover; the terms Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread are often used interchangeably.
