The Marriage Supper - Step 12 Previous Lesson
The last part of this series "Rosh HaShanah: The Wedding of the Messiah" is when the father of the groom invites all the guests to the Marriage Supper.

Matt 22:2-14 (NKJV) "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king (God the Father) who arranged a marriage for his son (Yeshua), 3 and sent out his servants (the prophets down to John the Baptist) to call those who were invited to the wedding;(Israel invited the first time ) and they were not willing to come. 4 Again, he sent out other servants, (the Apostles and other disciples) saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready.(Messiah’s sacrifice, his death burial and resurrection made everything ready) Come to the wedding." (this is the second invitation given to Israel) '5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. (they refused to see Messiah in the midst of them) 6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. (The cruel and unmerciful deaths of the Apostles) 7 But when the king (God the Father) heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, (The Roman armies) destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. (Those who rejected His Messiahship) 9 Therefore go into the highways, (Gentile nations) and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.'
10 So those servants (disciples and evangelists) went out into the highways (nations of the world) and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. (the sinners and the righteous) And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 But when the king (The Father) came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. (not clothed in the righteous of the Messiah and without the linen garments of righteous deeds) 12 So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless (speechless because he thought that he knew the way, but discovered to late that he was wrong) 13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
In ancient times there were two invitations to a wedding. The first was given in preparation of the wedding so that the guests would have time to be prepared and to get ready. The second invitation was given shortly before the wedding banquet in anticipation that the wedding supper would be just as soon as the Father made the announcement. Therefore the invited guests would be there at the proper time. 29 Israel as a nation refused His invitation even though the gospel was preached to her for seven years after Pentecost. The invitation was then extended to the Gentile Nations of the world. The above parable makes it clear that only those with the proper wedding garments will be seated at the wedding supper. Jew and Gentile alike will be seated together, providing that each has been adorned with the proper wedding attire.
Matt 8: 11 (NKJV) And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
Is. 26: 19 (NKJV) Your dead shall live; together with my dead body, they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead
The Bride, the Groom, the Father of the Groom and all of the Guests will enjoy a Wedding Banquet that will be the greatest and most joyous celebration since the beginning of time. I believe this wedding supper will be held in heaven and not on earth as some would say. There are several reasons for this belief.
If indeed, the Messiah’s wedding supper will be on earth as some say, then it would have to be postponed for at least seven years. When I reach conclusions like this one, i.e. The wedding of Messiah will be in Heaven, and it is contrary to what most think, I like to have it confirmed by someone else’s work. This I have done. The following is a exert from an article that was posted with Friends of Israel by Dr. Renald Showers. In his article he said this, “Earlier it was stated that there are good reasons for believing that the marriage of the Lamb will occur in Heaven when the Church is raptured before the 70th week (Tribulation period) and that the marriage supper of the Lamb will take place in Heaven during the seven years of the 70th week”. Then he goes on in his article to give his reasons for believing what he does. David Stern in his Jewish New Testament Commentary does not spend much time on the issue except to say, “first is the wedding supper of the Lamb, climaxed by the return of the Messiah”. Since he says that Messiah will return to earth after the wedding supper, one can only conclude that it would mean that Messiah is still in heaven for His wedding supper. With this, I have my two witnesses.
Those that think the wedding supper of the Lamb will be when Messiah returns to earth with his bride, I believe could be mistaken, because when Messiah and his wife return to earth with the armies of heaven it will be for the purposes of judgment. With His second coming, He is not seen as a joyous bridegroom coming for his bride with the merry making of his male companions, but rather as a mighty warrior. He is seen as The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords riding on a white horse with a rod of iron to rule the nations. There will be a supper, but of another kind.
Rev 19: 11-21 (NKJV) Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great." 19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
Earlier, we saw that Rosh HaShanah and The Wedding of the Messiah are one and the same. Another name for Rosh HaShanah is The Coronation of the King. We have seen from the pattern of the Jewish wedding how the bride and groom are treated just like a queen and a king on their wedding day. Likewise on Yeshua’s wedding day He will be crowned King and His Bride Queen. The Queen which we know is the bride of Yeshua will live with Him throughout all of eternity. The King (Yeshua) and His Queen (the true believers) will return to the earth together to rule and reign for a millennium, and then she will be with the Lord forever.
Rev 19 6-9 (NKJV) And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."
Rev 20: 6 (NKJV) Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Now Lets look at the following scriptures and identify the marriage steps that we can see have transpired. The color emphasis is mine.
Gen 24: 1- (NKJV) Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. 2 So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, "Please, put your hand under my thigh, 3 and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; (the father of the groom sending the “friend of the groom” to do the negotiating.) 4 but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac." (father of the groom determining who the bride should be) 5 And the servant said to him, "Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came?" 6 But Abraham said to him, "Beware that you do not take my son back there. 7 The LORD God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, 'To your descendants I give this land,' He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. (God sends His agent to select the bride) 8 And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there." 9 So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.
10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, for all his master's goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor. 11 And he made his camels kneel down outside the city by a well of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water. Then he said, "O LORD God (the divine matchmaker) of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. 14 Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, 'Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink'--let her be the one You have appointed (God Chooses the Bride) for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master." 15 And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, (kinsman, Rebekah would have been Isaac’s cousin) came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. 16 Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin (the bride of one man only) no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up. 17 And the servant ran to meet her and said, "Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher." 18 So she said, "Drink, my lord." Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink. 19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, "I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking."
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. 21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. 22 So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold, (part of the bride’s price, around 4.25 oz of gold) and said, "Whose daughter are you? Tell me, please, is there room in your father's house for us to lodge?" 24 So she said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, Milcah's son, whom she bore to Nahor." 25 Moreover she said to him, "We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge." 26 Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the LORD. 27 And he said, "Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren." 28 So the young woman ran and told her mother's household these things. 29 Now Rebekah had a brother whose name was Laban, and Laban ran out to the man by the well.
30 So it came to pass, when he saw the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister's wrists, ( the fact that Rebekah accepted the nose ring and the bracelets is her agreement to be Isaac’s bride) and when he heard the words of his sister Rebekah, saying, "Thus the man spoke to me," that he went to the man. And there he stood by the camels at the well. 31 And he said, "Come in, O blessed of the LORD! Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels." (Laban was acting as the negotiator for the bride’s family. This is evidenced by his offer of hospitality) 32 Then the man came to the house. And he unloaded the camels, and provided straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. 33 Food was set before him to eat, but he said, "I will not eat until I have told about my errand." And he said, "Speak on." 34 So he said, "I am Abraham's servant. 35 The LORD has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys. 36 And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and to him he has given all that he has. (I see this as an oral ketubah that spells out the wealth of the groom in order to assure the brides family that she will be well taken care of) 37 Now my master made me swear, saying, 'You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell; 38 but you shall go to my father's house and to my family, and take a wife for my son.' 39 And I said to my master, 'Perhaps the woman will not follow me.'
40 But he said to me, 'The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father's house. 41 You will be clear from this oath when you arrive among my family; for if they will not give her to you, then you will be released from my oath.' 42 "And this day I came to the well and said, 'O LORD God of my master Abraham, if You will now prosper the way in which I go, 43 behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass that when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, "Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink," 44 and she says to me, "Drink, and I will draw for your camels also,"--let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son.' 45 "But before I had finished speaking in my heart, there was Rebekah, coming out with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down to the well and drew water. And I said to her, 'Please let me drink.' 46 And she made haste and let her pitcher down from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will give your camels a drink also.' So I drank, and she gave the camels a drink also. 47 Then I asked her, and said, 'Whose daughter are you?' And she said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him.' So I put the nose ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrists. 48 And I bowed my head and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the way of truth to take the daughter of my master's brother for his son. 49 Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left."
50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, "The thing comes from the LORD; we cannot speak to you either bad or good. 51 Here is Rebekah before you; take her and go, and let her be your master's son's wife, as the LORD has spoken.” (both families are in agreement and the betrothal is recognized by the reference that Rebekah is the wife of Isaac.) 52 And it came to pass, when Abraham's servant heard their words, that he worshiped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. 53 Then the servant brought out jewelry of silver, jewelry of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. (once the bride is betrothed she is lavished with gifts and the family is given additional precious things as part of the mohar.) 54 And he and the men who were with him ate and drank and stayed all night. Then they arose in the morning, and he said, "Send me away to my master." 55 But her brother and her mother said, "Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go." 56 And he said to them, "Do not hinder me, since the LORD has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master." 57 So they said, "We will call the young woman and ask her personally." 58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" And she said, "I will go." (The bride must willing decide to be the bride and leave the household of her father and join the household of her husband) 59 So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men. (her nurse is part of her dowry)
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her: "Our sister, may you become The mother of thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess The gates of those who hate them. (They spoke the wedding benediction over Rebekah) 61 Then Rebekah and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man. (Rebekah’s maids were given to her from her father’s estate as dowry gifts.) So the servant took Rebekah and departed. 62 Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. 64 Then Rebekah lifted her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from her camel; 65 for she had said to the servant, "Who is this man walking in the field to meet us?" The servant said, "It is my master." So she took a veil and covered herself. (as was the custom Rebekah hid herself behind a veil until their marriage is consummated) 66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. 67 Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. (the marriage is consummated) So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
Gen 29: 18-30
Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter." (bride’s price worked out in labor) And Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me." (family agreement, Laban is Jacob’s mother Rebekah’s brother, he negotiated Rebekah’s bride price) So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her. Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, (during betrothal she was considered his wife) for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her." And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. (the wedding feast) Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. (the marriage consummation) And Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. (the bride’s dowry) So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. (bride was hidden behind a veil) And he said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?" And Laban said, "It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfill her week, (seven days in the bridal chamber separated from the world) and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years." (brides price for Rachel)Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. And Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid. (her maid is Rachel’s dowry)Then Jacob also went in to Rachel, (consummated the marriage) and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.
This beautiful picture of the Jewish wedding ceremony helps us to better understand the scriptures, idioms, and remez statements concerning the marriage of Messiah and His bride. A look at the Fall Feasts that are yet to be fulfilled by Yeshua will further enlighten us concerning the second coming of our Lord and the prophetic picture that is painted within these feasts about the wedding of the Messiah.

The Wedding
of The Messiah
Part 12 of 12
Today those garments are called kittel’s and they look like a white robe. 28
Yesuha speaks about not having the proper wedding garment in the following parable. This is much more that a parable, it is a prophecy about the Kingdom of God. Oh how it must have grieved our Lord when He was telling this parable, because He was talking about His own wedding supper.
In the same manner as the Jewish wedding, only those guests that have been invited by The Father will be present at the wedding banquet.
Just as the Jewish wedding party found wedding guests assembled at the groom's father's house when they arrived, so will Yeshua and his bride find the souls of Old Testament saints assembled in heaven when they arrive for the marriage supper.
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will be seated for they had previously been invited to the Father’s house. I believe that these ancient of souls that died in the faith looking to the cross will serve as the wedding guests.
The ceremony is finalized by the Marriage Supper. This marriage supper generally lasted for seven days. It was a celebration that was joyous and one was not allowed to mourn over anything at this time. All of the guests to this event have been invited by the father of the groom and they are given wedding garments to wear to the wedding.
In the East it is customary for the guests of the wedding to be given robes of honor and distinction that are to be worn to the wedding.
Messiah and His bride will experience spiritual union after her arrival to His Father's house in heaven, thereby consummating their relationship that had been covenanted earlier. Our bridegroom Yeshua (Jesus) will be crowned King over all the earth at the consummation of the marriage with his bride (all true believers in Yeshua). The King will adorn His bride in the glorious garments that represent the righteous deeds that she did because of her love for her bridegroom.
First, the custom of the Jewish wedding supper, which we see as the pattern for the wedding of the Messiah, was at the home of the Father of the groom. Secondly it will be a joyous and festive celebration. When Yeshua returns to the earth it will not be a joyous time.
Also we see from the pattern that once the marriage is consummated, the guests are jubilant and the festivities begin immediately.
