The Bridegroom Returns - Step 10 Previous Lesson
The bridegroom would return with a shout proclaiming, “Behold, the bridegroom comes” and the sound of the ram’s horn (shofar) would be blown.
The bride could generally hear the groom approaching in the distance because of his announcement. This would give the bride enough time to gather her things and her bridesmaid’s as they wait for his arrival. Traditionally her bridesmaids would pray over their sister to bless her with the following prayer that was prayed over Rebekah. 20
Gen 24:60 (NKJV) "Our sister, may you become The mother of thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess The gates of those who hate them."
The wedding processional back to the Fathers house was joyous and there was much merriment. Even though it was late at night, families would come out from their homes and join in the singing and the dancing as the processional went by. The bridal procession took precedence over a funeral procession and King Agrippa was praised by the rabbis for giving right of way to a bridal procession although his, being the royal procession, had precedence. 21 It was actually forbidden to mourn. Jesus eluded to this when he said:
Matt 9:15 (NKJV) "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
The bride and groom are married under a wedding canopy called the chupah. The groom is led to the chupah first followed by a sacred procession. The interesting thing about this is that when the bridegroom approaches the chupah the cantor chants these words: “Blessed is he who comes.” Blessed is he who comes.” These words are an idiomatic expression that “welcomes the bridegroom.” 22
Heaven is a type of chupah, and from this picture that God has painted from the Jewish ceremony we are aware of the fact that our bridegroom arrived under the chupah first. He has ascended into the heavens before His bride. Then we can see that when Yeshua (Jesus) gives His shout from heaven and we hear the sound of the shofar that the bride will be raptured and take her place under the canopy of heaven and a wedding will take place there in the heavens. Those that have died in Messiah will rise to meet Him before those that are left on the earth and will not die. There will be a generation of people that will not know death. They are those that are alive when the Shofar is blown beckoning the bride to come and join her bridegroom in the air.
1 Thess 4: 15-18 (NKJV) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Yeshua said that we would not see him again until He heard the words, “Blessed is He who comes”, in other words, we would not see Him again until He would be welcome. It is not the bride of Messiah who chants Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus!
Luke 13:34-35 (NKJV) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! 35 See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' "

The groom, his best man and other male companions would leave the groom's father's house and conduct a torch light procession to the home of the bride. 19
Usually when the bridegroom returned for his bride, it would be at midnight, but one never knew for sure. The groom however would announce his coming. He would come with a shout and the blowing of the shofar.
